Il canale di Mezzanotte rappresenta anche il confine tra la Campania e la Basilicata.
Poco più avanti il paesaggio diviene, se possibile, ancora più aspro e scosceso (visibile con prudenza anche da alcune piazzole presenti sulla strada).
Paesaggio che conserva ancora parte del tracciato originario del sentiero "Apprezzam' u ciucc" (Apprezzami l'asino) con la grotta della Forgia.
Questa grotta deve il suo nome all'utilizzo dell'antro naturale da parte di un maniscalco che praticava la ferratura degli asini di passaggio.
La grotta conserva ancora la volta imbrattata dal fumo prodotto dalla forgia utilizzata dal "lodevole" artigiano.
Il sentiero era l'unica "comoda" via di collegamento tra Sapri e Maratea.
E' stato chiamato con tale pittoresco toponimo a causa della scarsa larghezza del sentiero stesso che impediva l'affiancarsi di due asini nel caso si fossero incontrati.
Quindi, non potendo far retrocedere gli animali, si provvedeva a valutare gli asini e, previo risarcimento della metà del valore al proprietario dell'asino meno costoso, si faceva precipitare l'animale in mare per consentire il transito dell'altro.
Pratica crudele obbligata dalle circostanze.
The channel of Midnight also represents the border between Campania and the Basilicata. More before the landscape it becomes, if possible, even more sour (visible with prudence also from some platforms of the road). Landscape that still preserves part of the native layout of the path "Apprezzam' u ciucc" (Appreciate me the donkey) with the cave of the Forge. This cave owes its name to the use of the natural cavern of a blacksmith that practised the ferratura of the donkeys of passage. The cave is still dirtied by the smoke produced by the forge used by the praiseworthy artisan. The path was the only comfortable street of connection between Sapri and Maratea. The picturesque toponimo is due because of the scarce width of the path same that didn't allow the passage of two donkeys of side. Then (the animals don't demote) the donkeys were appraised and, after reimbursement of half the value to the owner of the donkey of small value, the animal in sea was thrown for allowing the transit of the other. Cruel practice forced by the circumstances. |
